For carnivores

OldHomesteadOne of my favorite places in NYC is the Old Homestead steak house, the oldest steak house in the City. When I was living in Manhattan, I used to go there, often with my friend Chris, for a catch up, an injection of proteins and a few drinks.

The steaks are big. My favorite, the 32 Oz Gotham Rib Steak, the biggest one of course. Tender, juicy and exceptionally good. Chris and I would usually share the Chef’s special bread preparation for starters, a side of creamed spinach and lots of wine from their well stocked cellar. Well, and a large steak each, of course.

The waiters are good and friendly. The bar at the entrance nearly a dive bar.

Located in the Meatpacking district, the place itself is nothing special. In fact, it can seem a bit seedy and run-down with very large rooms, a dark atmosphere and a mix of smartly dressed couples and large family groups. A big plastic cow outside and a dodgy looking neon sign.

But, who cares? You go there for the meat. The most tender, tasty, succulent beef in New York. Prepared to perfection and yes, did I already said that? Tender!
